Happy Dhanteras!  One of my closest friends who happens to be Indian wished me this today and so I of course had to ask what it meant.  She explained to me that it is the Festival of Wealth.  Well what a lovely thing to celebrate, I was of course intrigued so had to do a bit of investigating on the internet.  www.diwalifestiveal.org gave a nice explanation:

“Dhanteras marks the first day of five-day-long Diwali Festival. Dhanteras Festival, also known as Dhantrayodashi or Dhanwantari Triodasi, falls on the auspicious thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik (October/November). In the word Dhanteras, “Dhan” stands for wealth. On Dhanteras the Goddess Laxmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. Hence Dhan Teras holds a lot more significance for the business community.”

In my research I also learned that to celebrate Dhanteras many people, especially business owners, decorate their homes and place of business with colorful decorations. They give thanks for the abundance they have received and the abundance that will come.  In other words, they express their gratitude.  It is such a simple yet powerful idea and one that we could all keep in mind a bit more often: Be grateful for all that you already have and then be grateful for what is now on its way to you.

In our busy lives it is easy to forget how very blessed with abundance we already are.  More often than not many of us could give away half of what we have and we would still have plenty to fill our closets and cupboards.  So why not celebrate Dhanteras today in your own way, no matter where you live or what religion you celebrate.  The moment you begin to be grateful for all that you have in your life you open the flow for even more to come your way.  Happy Dhanteras!

Yep, you read that right, I am hosting a challenge! And I must say I am very excited about it. The idea came to me when a colleague in Australia pointed out the fun and fantastic Google Search Stories video tool. I knew about the fantastic Google Search Story commerical but had no idea that a video tool existed to let you make your own Google Search Story video. Now that is not only great thinking, it’s just plain ole fun!

If you have not seen the wonderful Google commerical that started the whole Google Search video rage be sure to take 30 seconds to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/searchstories

It is of course near and dear to my heart as the story is nearly my own. I created my own video so you can see at least a part of my story.

Here it is: There are no failures, only opportunities! (Click on the video name to watch)

So here is the Challenge, throughout the month of May I am going to be encouraging people around the world to create their own Google Search Story. I want you to be one of those people!

Why? Well there are lots of reasons but the first on my list is that it will encourage you to take action. That in itself is something to celebrate, but here are a few reasons why you might want to do a Google Search Story video;  you can:

  • Share your story with others ( friends, family, clients, potential employers)
  • Get very creative with this – you can share your past, your present or the future as you dream it to be!
  • Spread the word so that other people can get in on this challenge and motivate themselves to take action too

Once you have watched my video, you will see a button that says “Create your own video”, click on it and follow the very easy steps to making your own Google Search Story.  Once you have created your video, you can share it on your social media networks and most importantly be sure to share your link here in the comments so that we can all share in eachother’s stories!

And if all that were not enough, there will be prizes for all challenge participants and a grand prize drawing for one lucky winner to receive a strategy session and Fabulously Successful Products worth $500!

Sign up below and you will be entered in the Challenge drawing.  You will also receive our twice monthly newsletter filled with tools, tips and techniques to keep you Fabulously Successful.

It is Spring vacation here in France, well at least for our part of France ( the Paris region) and it is more than a little challenging finding the time to get work done.  My three sons (11, 8 and 4) keep me on my toes already but when it is full days at home while mommy is working  oof that is called pushing my luck.  I have realized though that if you truly want to get something done, you can.  The key is to know what you need to get done so that every time your focus is pulled away, you can hone back in on what needs to be done the moment you can get back to ”working”.

Now it may sound overly obvious when I say know what needs to be done but amazingly many of us (and there are definitely times I have to include myself in that group)  start the day, continue the day and even finish the day without a real plan of what needs to get done.  We all keep mental lists of what we should be doing but when constant distractions take your mind off course, certain things can get overlooked.

So what is the solution?  Well I have started a new plan of making a ToDo list every night before I go to bed.  I limit it to 10 things and if I can I even whittle it down to 5.  Why?  Well it gives me a real sense of accomplishment when I can actually check everything off of my To Do List and also, if I put too many things down my mind goes into the “I’m never going to be able to get all of this done” mode.  The great thing too is that when I sit down at my computer to work first thing in the morning, I already have an action plan and can get right to work on my priorities instead of getting lost in the morning emails.

This is proving to be a great method for me and I would really encourage you to try it too.  It literally takes all of 5 minutes at night and you have set yourself up for success for the nex day!  Do you have any tips for getting it done anyways?  I would love to hear them!

To your Fabulous Success,

Dawn

Tonight, I went to the Executive MBA graduation ceremony of a dear friend from a world class international business school.  It was a wonderful celebration and I am happy to say that the graduating executives I saw there give me great hope for our future.

Perhaps it is due in part to the bad rep big business got a few years back from the likes of Enron but executives seem to have become more “human”.  It was so refreshing to hear people speaking about passion, morales and legacy.  Even the key note speaker a 1975 graduate of the school and now VP of a major oil company spoke about making a positive impact by working closely with NGOs and the likes of WWF.

Wow, that is certainly a change for the positive!

There really is a global shift happening.  If you can’t see it or feel it, step outside of the negative media rampage for a while.  I think you will actually be motivated by what you see and hear.  As someone said in tonight’s ceremony, our worldwide population will have tripled in one generation’s lifetime.  We must begin to work together for our collective good to make the world a better place for us all.

And just to top off the positive sentiments of the evening, we were treated to a group of scat singers who told us “Don’t worry be happy’.  Well, I for one am following their advice.

I would love to hear if you too have seen the signs of a positive worldwide change.  Share it with everyone by simply posting a comment to this blog post.

You m ay have noticed that my blog disappeared recently.  Well actually it wasn’t just my blog but my entire website.  how I wish I was kidding but I am not.  I wanted to share this story with you to hopefully keep the same disaster from happening to you.

First and most important golden rule:  Make sure your website is backed-up and make sure it is being backed up on a regular basis!

Yes, I know it seems like a very simple and basic thing to do but it is one of those cases where each party thought the other one was doing something and in the end it slipped through the cracks.

To be continued…
